This is a planning job, not a driving job
Anything over standard dimension becomes a permit and route problem before it becomes a transport problem. Bridge clearances, roundabout geometry, overhead services, council restrictions and curfews all shape the route, and the route shapes the price.
We handle the permit application, the route survey and pilot or escort vehicles where the dimensions require them. What we need from you is accurate dimensions and mass early, because a load that turns out 200mm wider than declared can invalidate a permit on the day.

Equipment
- Drop decks — the workhorse for tall plant that will not clear on a standard deck
- Floats and low loaders — tracked and wheeled machinery, excavators, dozers
- Extendable chassis — long structural steel, blades, beams and trusses
- Truck-mounted cranes — where the load has to be lifted on or off at a site with no plant
- Tilt trays — vehicles, containers and single-item moves
What we need to quote
- DimensionsLength, width, height, at the widest point
- MassGross, and the centre of gravity if it is unusual
- Lift pointsCertified or not, and where they are
- Site accessBoth ends — gradient, surface, swing room
- TimingCurfews and permitted travel hours affect the plan
Insurance
High-value plant is the one category where the distinction between carrier’s liability and goods-in-transit insurance really bites. Carrier’s liability is limited. If the item is worth more than that limit, arrange transit cover for its full value or ask us before the job and we will tell you exactly what is and is not covered.
Frequently asked
Yes. Permit application, route survey and pilot or escort vehicles are handled as part of the job where the dimensions require them.
For a permitted oversized move, as much as possible. Permit turnaround is outside our control and is the usual constraint on the start date.
Yes, using a truck-mounted crane or a tilt tray, depending on the mass and lift points.
